The Maldives has more than 160 resort islands. A luxury traveller faces a genuinely difficult selection problem — properties that photograph identically can produce very different experiences. The variables that determine quality are specific: the staff-to-guest ratio, the villa orientation, the transfer method, the age of the infrastructure, and the degree to which the resort operates differently for different guest profiles.
