How We Travel — Private Islands

Your own island. Not a figure of speech. The literal thing.

The distinction worth making

"Private island" is the most overused phrase in Maldives marketing — and occasionally the most accurate. Every resort sits on its own island. That doesn't make it private. We know the properties where the word is a physical description, not a marketing claim.

Every resort in the Maldives sits on its own island. That doesn't make it private.

What makes a resort private is the number of villas, the staffing ratio, the degree to which other guests are genuinely absent from your experience. Some properties have 15 villas. Others have 150. The properties in this collection are ones where "private island" is a physical description of what your voyage will feel like.

The question we ask when reviewing a property for this collection is simple: when you are there, do other guests intrude on your experience? Not occasionally — as a rule. The five properties below each answer that question in the negative, for different reasons. Your advisor will help you choose which version of private suits your voyage.

Our advisory selection

Five islands. Each one genuinely apart from the world.

The properties below were selected on one criterion: when you are there, do other guests intrude on your experience? The answer for each of these is no.

Kudadoo Maldives Private Island

Kudadoo Maldives Private Island

· Lhaviyani Atoll — Seaplane

The ultimate expression

Fifteen villas. One island. Complete isolation. Everything included — seaplane transfers, fine wines, private chef, excursions, in-villa dining whenever you want it. Kudadoo is the closest the Maldives gets to a resort with no bill at the end. Because there isn't one.

Best for Groups who want complete island isolation with all-inclusive ultra-lux service.

Soneva Fushi

Soneva Fushi

· Baa Atoll · Seaplane 35 min

Barefoot privacy at scale

Soneva Fushi operates on one of the largest islands in the Maldives. The villa count is higher than a pure-private property, but the island scale means guests encounter each other less than at smaller, denser resorts.

Best for Guests who want private island character with Baa Atoll marine wildlife access and an organic dining programme.

Cheval Blanc Randheli

Cheval Blanc Randheli

· Noonu Atoll · Seaplane 35 min

Designed for those who don't explain themselves

A private island where the service model is built around anticipating needs rather than responding to them. LVMH precision. One Capitaine per villa. The most discreet ultra-lux private island in the OV portfolio.

Best for Guests for whom private island status and LVMH-standard individual service are equally important.

Park Hyatt Hadahaa

Park Hyatt Hadahaa

· Gaafu Alifu Atoll · Seaplane 60 min

Southern atoll seclusion

The most remote resort in the OV portfolio. Gaafu Alifu Atoll is in the far south — a different Maldives from the atolls most guests visit. The diving is exceptional. The solitude is complete.

Best for Guests who prioritise genuine remoteness and exceptional diving over resort amenity density.

Velaa Private Island

Velaa Private Island

· Noonu Atoll · Seaplane 40 min

The most complete private island

Forty-seven pool villas. A golf course. An exceptional sommelier programme. A diving operation that functions at professional standard. And a private island where no external guests ever arrive.

Best for Guests who want private island status combined with genuine activity depth — golf, diving, sommelier.

Before you confirm

At a private island, what OV arranges in the weeks before you arrive determines what the stay is.

Direct GM-level relationships
Most booking channels reach the reservations desk. OV advisors work directly with General Managers and Resident Managers at these properties. That relationship is what turns a confirmation into a briefed arrival — with upgrades, preferences, and pre-arranged access that the reservations desk cannot authorise.
Transfer logistics — managed end to end
At remote private island properties, the transfer sequence is the most logistically fragile part of the trip. Seaplane slots are limited; weather contingencies are real; a missed domestic connection affects the first hours of the stay. We coordinate every leg and brief all contingencies before you leave home.
Occasion planning — briefed personally
The risk with a generic "special occasions" flag is that the resort receives a form, not a brief. For anniversaries, proposals, and family milestones, OV communicates the specific vision to the right person at the property — weeks in advance, with a name attached, not a tick box.
Full discretion as standard
Our private island guests include guests who travel entirely privately. We do not discuss who books with us, what they do, or where they stay — to us, to partners, or to anyone else. This is not a policy we reference. It is how we operate.

A private island, arranged precisely.

Private island buyouts require early planning. One conversation is enough to understand what is possible and what it takes to deliver it properly.
